Details :

Programme of Action (PoA), 1992 under the National Policy on Education (NPE), 1986 envisaged conduct of a common entrance examination on all India basis for admission to professional and technical programmes in the country. For admission to Engineering and Architecture/Planning programmes, Government of India vide Resolution dated 18th October 2001 has laid down a Three – Exam Scheme (JEE and AIEEE at the National Level and the State Level Engineering Entrance Examinations (SLEEE) for State Level Institutions – with an option to join AIEEE). This takes care of varying admission standards in these programmes and helps in maintenance of professional standards. This also solves problems of overlaps and reduces physical, mental and financial burden on students and their parents due to multiplicity of entrance examinations.

The fourth All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) was held on 8th May 2005.

3,97,178 candidates appeared, out of 4,36,048 candidates registered, for the examination at 763 centres located in 87 cities. Approximately, 9897 seats in 33 institutions, namely 18 National Institutes of Technology, 09 Deemed Universities and 03 other Technical Institutions, 3 other Govt. funded Institutions were offered through this examination A centralized counselling had been organized for filling up the All India seats.
The States/Institutes listed below used AIEEE-2005 ranks to fill seats through their own counselling:-
West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Uttranchal, Punjab University, Chandigarh, Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh, Thapur Institue of Engineering and Technology, Patiala, Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology, Gandhinagar, Army Institute of Technology, Pune.

This year many other institutions are expected to admit students through AIEEE. . Final list of institutions admitting students through AIEEE-2006 would be contained in the Information Brochure for Counselling and released on AIEEE website in due course.

Counselling Procedure 2006

All candidates are eligible either for central counselling or state-specific or category-specific counselling on basis of their AIR. Counselling for SC/ST candidates and SC/ST physically handicapped candidates is done on the first two days of counselling. Then the physically handicapped in the Open (OP) category are counselled.

In 2006, around 5,25,000 candidates wrote the AIEEE of which around 45,000 people in the open and open physically handicapped category have been called for counselling.

First, there is an off-campus online counselling, where students who've taken the AIEEE can register and tentatively list their choices online on the CCB website. These choices can be entirely changed at the time of the on-campus counselling.

The Open category candidates are divided into slabs of 7500-10000 according to their AIR and allotted two days for the on-campus counselling at their respective counselling centres.

First day: Counselling

On the first day, the students have to report at the counselling centre by 9:00 AM. Their rank is checked and they are given a token number, which is on a first-come first-served basis.

There are rooms with about 30-40 LCD terminals at which the students can enter their final choices in Form 1, according to what is available for them. These choices are locked by a CCB officer in the centre. The students then fill out a Form 2. These choices are also locked and printouts of both forms are given to the candidate.

At the end of each day, the choices of students from counselling centres all over india are consolidated and seat allotments are made as per the AIR. The allotment results are published at midnight and are viewable on the website from then on. Results can be viewed as per various criterion as seen:

Second day: Allotment

The students can check online if they have been allotted a seat based on their choices. If so, they can go the counselling centre, where a list of candidates allotted seats of their choice will be put up. They can then collect their allotment letter from the centre and pay the fees to respective colleges.

FORM 2

Form 2 is filled by the students who wish to participate in the second round of the AIEEE counselling. The purpose of this is to fill up the dropout seats - those which have already been allotted in Form 1 but have not been taken - and remaining vacant seats.

Firstly, the student can only list his/her choice of institutions and not the branch. In phase one, students are allotted their preferred institutions on basis of their AIR. They are required to report at the allotted institution within a set period of time to pay the fees and list their branch preferences. Students who do not report within that time will not have their allotment cancelled.

In phase two, seats of the candidates who dropped out in phase one are allotted to others as per the AIR. Similarly in phase three, seats of students who dropped out in phase two are allotted.

Finally, at the end of phase three, the AIR of students who have reported at each institute under Form 2 is collected and branches are allotted on its basis.

Sliding

All candidates who have been admitted in an institute (through Form 1 or Form 2) are eligible for sliding - that is moving from one branch to the other. Sliding will be done after completion of all admissions i.e. after phase three of Form 2. The process of sliding and getting the branch you desire depends entirely upon your AIR.
